Mars, the red planet, has always fascinated us. Humans relate Mars with the God of War, the most probable planet within the Solar System harboring life and some
conspiracy theorists believe that the Martians have already left a message on the planet on
ancient alien theorists even say that life was seeded on the Earth by Martians thousands of years ago.
Curiosity has landed on Mars, just to find out whether there really was life on Mars. For two years, the robot will search here and there within Mars and analyse the rocks. The results might be astounding. Who knows, it may send extraordinary reports about Mars?
Just twenty years ago, Mars was such a mystery with pictures of the Face splattered all over magazines(we had no internet access then!). I used to wonder whether there were really dwarf sized squinting Martians in that red planet, after reading all those childish science fictions. Later, I got engrossed myself in ancient alien theories which propose that Adam and Eve might have been the first clones on earth planted by the super-intelligent Martians.
I remember a movie, must be
Mission to Mars, where the astronauts solve the mystery of the Face. They enter the Face, which happens to be an archival laboratory of the long extinct Martians, where there are holographic images and three-dimensional videos about their existence, survival and extinction (because of an atomic war!). The protagonist of that movie heads off to Proxima Centauri in the last scene of the movie. That’s where the Martians are now, as the movie suggests.
I remember that movie because exactly when the astronauts were entering the Face, a pressure cooker bomb had exploded nearby my house. We were at a friend’s, enjoying that drama, when suddenly something shook the village as if the Martians had landed. Contrary to the fear of a doomsday, everything was alright. It was not a bomb but just a pressure cooker left unattended. It had blown the roof. We resumed to the thrill of that movie within minutes.
So Curiosity has landed on Mars; what can we expect from it? People are talking about colonization of that red planet but that, I guess, will happen only when every person living alive now will have been dead for about a century. They say it took eight months for Curiosity to reach Mars and maybe people will be shuttling back and forth from Mars only when it will take about one week!
There are chances that Curiosity might change our whole pattern of beliefs. It might bring a paradigm shift. Maybe all the things those conspiracy lunatics are true. Maybe we have been planted by the Martians and the Gods our ancestors beheld hovering above the skies, the God with whom Moses communed atop Mt. Sinai, the God that Ezekiel beheld thundering down the skies with cherubs moving around on wheels were just
UFOs, aliens and robots!
What a pity! When the Earthlings (Americans?) will have colonized Mars, we’ll have been dead so there’s no chance that we can be updated about the news! So for now, we can only go into an imaginary time travel and guess the fate of Curiosity. Maybe it will be worshiped as First Descendant from the Skies which Discovered Mars?
Pray the best for Curiosity so that it relays good messages which will decide and define our destiny. When we were children, I guess, most of us wanted to be astronauts and explore the skies. We couldn’t but we’ve sent a robot instead! That robot will send us messages all year round which will help us in our understanding of the universe, our ancestry and evolution. Or else, we will just be dealing with rocks from a cold planet.
Do you believe we are the descendants of the Martians or any other species from any other unknown galaxy? Do you have direct or indirect communications with them? Please feel free to share.
